From the Life of One Village poster

Documentary film

From the Life of One Village

This is a film about a village with the poetic name Svetlana; it is located two hours' drive from St. Petersburg. It was built more than twenty-five years ago by volunteers for people with physical and mental disabilities, doomed to specialized closed psychoneurological institutions. Many of them could not put two words together before they came to the village; they were locked up.

In Svetlana, they avoid the words "disabled" or "unhealthy", preferring to call such people "folk". They do not engage in miraculous healing and special training; diagnosis is not important here. Here the folk have conditions for normal human life. Healthy and unhealthy people communicate on equal terms, work together, stage performances and run a joint household. People with disabilities do not feel sick or damaged. Here everyone is equal.

It took us 13 years to make this film.
